Dave Mackie

Dave was born in Prince Albert in 1939. He was the oldest of four children, with two brothers and a sister. He spent most of his childhood in PA with two high school years in Regina. Dave graduated grade 12 from Prince Albert Collegiate. Through high school, Dave worked in the Army Reserve and at the OK Economy, this helped to keep gas in his 1949 Ford and later a 1955 Chev.
In 1960 he began a 25 year career with Crown Zellerbach (now known as Unisource). He started on the order desk in Regina and moved up to a District Salesman position in Moose Jaw. In 1971, he was transferred back to Regina to take on the role of Fine Paper Sales Manager for the southern Saskatchewan Region. Dave then moved upto the Sales Manager position. During this time, Dave received his Certificate in Business Administration and completed many other courses, mainly with the paper industry and management skills.
Dave married Patricia Hood in 1964. They have recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary!
Dave took over management of the Saskatchewan Egg Producers in 1986. He dedicated himself to the growers and their business until his retirement in 2004. On their behalf, Dave also committed many hours to the Canadian Western Agribition, ensuring consumer education of egg production issues and nutrition. His commitment was appreciated.
Dave and Pat have two children, David and Christa. Family is very important to Dave. Holiday time was often spent traveling. Outdoor activities almost always included skiing, camping, boating, fishing highland games and sightseeing. It was important to Dave that his children receive an education. He is proud to say that David has an Advance Arts Degree and an Education Degree with Honors and Christa has a Business Administration Degree and recently completed her CHRP designation. Both children are now working in Ontario.
Dave is very adept at most trades, often being referred to as McGivor, by family and friends. He has made beautiful furniture and renovated the house which he and Pat have lived in since 1981. Dave has been involved in many activities outside of the office including, the Capital Cosmopolitan Club, Toastmaster’s, St. Luke’s Anglican Church, many highland dance events, the Tartan Curling Club and the Army, Navy and Airforce service club.
In retirement, Dave is looking forward to traveling and having time for curling in the winter and gardening in the summer while enjoying the cottage at Christopher Lake with family and friends.
